Requirements

• Individuals who possess a matriculation and have successfully completed the two years of theoretical training required for a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or Biotechnology/Microbiology/Environmental Sciences

• Applicants must be South African Citizens and have a valid SA ID Document.
• Applicants must be under the age of 35 in line with the NSDS.
• Applicants must not have participated in previous experiential learning programs and must have the experience necessary to earn a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or Environmental Sciences.

• The following documents must be included in the application; incomplete applications will not be considered. o Application Letter and Curriculum Vitae.
o Recommendation letter from the Tertiary training institute verifying that you must only complete the one year training in the workplace environment.
o Certified copies of your ID Document.
oCertified copies of your training record including the academic transcript.
Primary Duties
• Application of basic principles of ISO 17025.
• Taking samples to check the quality of the water

• Preparation of media, chemicals, reagents and samples received, for the area of work.
• Analyzing samples that have been received.

• The documentation and checking of results on the identified databases.
• Performance and documentation of all quality control checks of identified analytical tests.
• Undertaking and documentation of maintenance of equipment, instrumentation, biological cultures and test kits and ensure that they are correctly maintained.
• The practice of SHE and the principles of good housekeeping in the workplace. Knowledge
• Sound theoretical knowledge of Biotechnology/Microbiology/ Environmental Science/Analytical Chemistry.
Skills
• Effective writing and verbal communication skills
• Computer proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing programs •

Ability to prioritise, organise and plan
Attitude
self-motivated person who is driven by output and quality and can handle pressure and routine work. Ability to interact with staff and customers.
Team worker but can work independently.
Conscientious and pays attention to detail.
Willingness to work after hours, weekends and public holidays.
